HOBBIES

Fashion Design/ Upcycling

I learned how to embroider when I was in kindergarten and my Grandmother taught me what she knew about machine sewing from when she worked in a skirt shop as a kid. In highschool I took it upon myself to start making formal dresses from scratch and upcycle old formal dresses for my prom and formal dances. I also would bring in old clothes to art class and paint on them and/or sew them with new items to make all new items.

In my senior year of highschool, I did an independent study on how fashion design has helped bolster social justice movements of the past, present and future. From my research, I made a line of 3 designs that reflected my findings. As a freshman in college, I recently was commissioned to make a corset design for singer songwriter Isolde Fair that she wore to the Grammys ceremony and red carpet. The piece was featured in many viral tik toks and articles including Cosmopolitan’s Best Dressed.

Adventuring

Since I was young, I danced at a formal studio. I studied ballet, pointe modern, contemporary, african, tap, jazz, hip hop, flamenco- you name it. My favorite style was hip hop for the longest, however I did ballet and pointe for the longest, performing in the nutcracker and different showcases for my studio. I did many dance intensives throughout the summers including Debbie Allen Dance Academy and Dance Theatre of Harlem. In highschool, I took a break from dance and did varsity basketball cheer. As a freshman in college, I am a member of the BreakThrough hip hop team on campus that performs in a showcase every semester and we have performed at different school sanctioned events and concerts.

Dancing

I would consider myself to be a very adventurous person. Back in Atlanta, (before I passed my driver’s test) I would ride my bike all through the neighborhoods on the weekends. Growing up I lived in a lot of different houses in Atlanta ( I think 6 or 7) and I would go out and try new food places or just go out with my journal, my sketchbook, and a picnic blanket and I would meditate or even just look at the clouds. In my car, I would do the same but on an even bigger scale all over the city. By the end of my senior year I knew so much about my city and had been to every little corner.

I hope to do the same in LA. I have explored a decent amount of places like K town, Culver city, Beverly Hills, and a little bit of Downtown. Hopefully I can get a car soon so the real fun can begin!
